Tanoto Foundation Philosophy – Empowerment and enhancement through employment
In line with the 3-tiered philosophy of the Tanoto Foundation and its founder Mr Sukanto Tanoto, Asian Agri is well known as the pioneer of one of Indonesia’s largest and most successful community partnership schemes. The company is also one of Asia’s largest palm oil producers with an annual palm oil production of 1 million tons. Founded by one of Indonesia’s most successful businessmen, Sukanto Tanoto, and a part of the RGE group of companies, Asian Agri is an employer of over 25 000 and single-handedly contributes vital support to the Indonesian economy.
Since 2002, Asian Agri has put much of its focus on the training of its employees, establishing the Asian Agri Learning Institute (AALI) which has successfully trained and produced over 2 200 graduates.
The AALI focuses on producing generations of skilled planters that are able to sustainably cultivate and manage the production of palm oil in a 100% environmentally friendly manner. With over 100 trainees accepted every six months from all parts of Sumatra, such as Jambi, Riau and North Sumatra, Asian Agri continues to produce a work force with Indonesia’s best interests at heart.

At AALI, trainees undergo a methodical training programme, introducing them to the basics of palm oil cultivation, with acute focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Throughout their training, all trainees receive a salary from Asian Agri:
