APRIL Group Butterfly Habitat Chairman Speaks to 100 Youth Environmentalists

Mr. Bey Soo Khiang, Chairman of the APRIL Group Butterfly Habitat welcomed 100 aspiring conservationists from across Southeast Asia.

Offering remarks at an event that introduced dramatic improvement to the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park butterfly habitat, Bey Soo Khiang was encouraged by the turnout of the next generation of environmental leaders, attendees to the inaugural ASEAN Power Shift conference. The Chairman explained the role APRIL plays in protecting the environment, particularly through forest conservation.

Among key highlights, Khiang showed how the company has developed plantations around forests in Riau, which are home to nearly 160 million trees. In addition, he explained the company’s efforts to conserve one acre of forest, for every acre of plantation.

Also in attendance was Mrs Josephine Teo, Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC and Senior Minister of State for Finance and Transport, as well as community members and students from Hillgrove Secondary, Ang Mo Kio Secondary and the National University of Singapore.

In his speech, Khiang also introduced a program whereby APRIL is restoring nearly 200,000 acres of degraded peat forest, an announcement which solicited positive a positive response from the crowd.
